Tournament Rules

 

For the purposes of these Rules the relevant federation is the WBGF

Optional rules for the tournaments of Backgammon Germany:

 

 

1. The "Responsible Move Rule" is applied according to § 4.2 (iii):

​

If an illegal checker move occurs, the opponent must either require it to be 14 corrected or to stand.

 

2. „Dice on Checker“ is not allowed according to § 4.1 (iv):

​

As the dice are being rolled, they should not touch the player’s hand and the cup should not touch the board. The dice must roll freely and come to rest lying flat on the playing surface of the board to the roller’s right of the bar.

 

3. Use of a clock according to § 3.5 (i):

 

• Championship Flight          Obligation

• Intermediate Flight:            Obligation

• Beginners-Flight:                Option

 

4. Use of a Bafflebox according to § 3.4 (i):

Option, in any Tournament the players may choose to play the match using a baffle box if they are in agreement. The use of the baffle box on only one side is permitted.

5. Rules of Backgammon-Germany about the exclusion of a player from the Intermediate and Beginner category:

 

• Tournament winners in the Intermediate and Beginners Flight are excluded from this category at our tournaments for 14 months and relegated to the next higher category.

• A player who is in the top 10 of the German Backgammon Ranking in the previous month of our event will be relegated to the Championship Flight.

• In general, we reserve the right to exclude participants from a lower category and offer them a place in the next higher category according to § 1.4 (ii).
